critique times 2

Today is a good day for critiques. I have the final critique in digital illustration for my apple rendering that i'm suppose to fix. Here's the fixer upper.

Brother Burr likes that the worms are gone, but just like I predicted, he expects more from me because of the Picasso sketch I did for my first assignment. So he was bored with this painting. No worries, my ego isn't scared. I totally get it. Burr said I need to be more creative and expressive. Pretty much, he's telling me I need to have fun with my art and be more like Picasso. I'll admit, I didn't have as much fun doing the apple rendering like I did the Picasso sketch. So that's saying something.

Second, I have a critique on my master copy in intro to illustration. For that assignment we were suppose to copy an illustrator's work. I chose Gustav Klimt's Judith I. First we were to do a line drawing, then do the painting. The results? Two long nights of painting (because I started late) and patience. The results. Let me know what you think! Thanks peeps.

how do you like them apples?

the second assignment of the semester....happens to be my first digital painting- ever! i'll admit, i was intimidated, but it so happens that i'm getting a hang of this thing- blending and all. so yeah, i quite liked this assignment. so the assignment was to do a beautiful rendering of an apple, but do a narrative painting because, well, we're illustrators. so here's my piece....

uber cute huh?!?! well let me know what you think! thanks peeps!

surprise surprise...

i survived the first critique in digital illustration. by the way, there was nothing to worry about. brother burr isn't a menace, but i'm so use to being on my toes during critiques. so i was very surprised to hear that brother burr was highly favored of my master copy. these were his words...

"i love this drawing. i like it better than picasso's!"

oh so surprised. i didn't really take the second part of the compliment, just because i could never touch...not even skim picasso. he's genius. a genius artist, and well....i'm stupid and sometimes i have no idea what i'm doing.

burr than joked if i chose to do this particular sketch because i had a crappy brush and then asked if all my work is going to be based on my crappy brushes. so pretty much, i have to up my game with my tools, but he'll expect more from me because i did so well on my first drawing. great.

Don Quixote

I've finished my first assignment for digital illustration. I feel a sense of accomplishment with my very first digital drawing. So the master artist and work I decided to copy was Pablo Picasso's Don Quixote. I've always admired Picasso's style and work. I chose to do this piece because I love the sketchy lines he uses, and figured that this would be a good place to start.

So here's the results! It's a lot harder than it looks and it's not exact,
but like I said, I feel accomplished.

first off....

hello fellow artistist and art lovers. welcome to my first official attempt at a blog. let's begin...

today in digital illustration we had our first tries at painting in photoshop. exciting huh. but not as exciting as buying my wacom bamboo tablet. and then opeing it. it was like christmas in the middle of a random day in september. true joy.

after working out all the kinks and technical junk part, we got to make our very first brushes. it was fun...like i couldn't stop myself, but then i realized that i was going to have to use these amature brushes to paint. yeah, intimidating.

so that brings us to our first assignment ----> copy an art master's drawing using a pencil brush that we created.

this is the part when christmas ends and you long for the time you were opening gifts and had no care in the world, and now your toy is your worst enemy.
