more from idaho

after living in idaho for four years, i’ve come to appreciate it’s beauty. most of idaho is covered in farmlands and tiny towns. on our way back to utah we took the scenic route, stopping in logan and then on to provo. on the way we passed through a small town only known to most of us by the movie napoleon dynamite. yes, preston, idaho. population: 5,204. we whizzed on through it in less than ten minutes. but what quaint place it was. when we were driving by preston high school i rolled down the window to take a photograph and whew what i smell i smelt! sure enough the high school was right across a cow pasture and i couldn’t help but think about the scene in napoleon dynamite where the farmer shot the cow right in from of the school bus full of children. i laughed…and choke on the smell of cow dung.
i never thought i’d ever consider idaho as one of my homes. oh idaho how you amaze me!

took a little trip back to rexburg. i went back to the print lab that i love so dearly. i was on auto pilot, just walking around the lab as if i knew what i was doing but i actually didn't. sad to say, but i forgot a few things (uh, you mix calcium carbonate with....alcohol...no ammonia to degrease the plate). no worries, i remember quick enough to get a print out in three hours. to get an image, a plate with one technique, and three prints in three hours....can i say stressful! i didn't think it was possible but it happened. not my best print, but this was good for me in that i found that i still got the intaglio skills. yes! afterwards i checked out the byu-idaho faculty art exhibit. was amazing of course. oh how i love my professors!

after art making and the faculty show we head to rexburg's wonderful farmer's market. it was the first day of the season. what a great way to celebrate the beautiful weather with friends and delicious food.

new piece

i haven't done a finished piece in a while. i'm kind of sad this turned out so well only because i wish it was a hundred times bigger. giant poster size? yes please! i'm all about that. oh well...small pieces are nice too. enjoy!

a visit.

i recently returned to rexburg to celebrate a bfa show, join in art night and indulge in good friendships.
this is my third time visiting since i've become an alum and i must say i don't quite like it. rexburg and the spori just isn't the same anymore once you've shed the title of student.

birthday

i baked a lovely cake last night for a friend's birthday. a vegan cake and surprisingly delicious. hazelnut cake covered in chocolaty coconut whipped frosting. nomnoms indeed!

spring

yesterday was the first day of spring. last week's weather was beautiful, but this week it's been quite cold. despite the fact that it could possible snow today, i'm happy that spring is finally official. or maybe that should be depressing. eh, i'm hoping for the best. happy spring all!

recycling bottles

my husband and his brothers are big coke drinkers. and not just any coke, the cokes that come in the glass bottles because they have real sugar. since chirstmas i've been collecting all their glass coke bottles and more, hoping that i'd find a way to reuse them. three months later i finally found some use for them. check it...

supplies: glass bottles, spray paint primer, spray paint (black gloss), gold leaf, and krylon crystal clear

i'm so excited to decorate my little apartment with these. i might hit up ace hardware for different color spray paint. mint, pink, or white? yea please!

vogue

for a birthday gift this year, my mother in law got me a two year subscription of vogue. uh, best gift ever! all i ever do now is flip a dozen times through the pages of vogue and sketch in them and sketch from them. i love it! so some sketches i worked on in the past two days.

austin, texas

last weekend i accompanied my husband on his theoretical psychology conference in austin. never having been there, we were both excited to explore the party city that austin is known for. we're not much of partiers, but it was still fun to explore 6th street at night and shop on soco. oh i even got to reunite with an old friend from high school. three years is to dang long! check out the adventures!

delicious specialty of hickory street, fish tacos!
